Overview
Atlassian is an Australian software company founded in Sydney in 2002 by Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, who funded it on credit cards and grew it for years without a traditional sales force. Its products became the default coordination layer for software teams: Jira for issue and project tracking, Confluence for documentation, Bitbucket for source control and Jira Service Management for IT support. Listed on Nasdaq since 2015, the company has expanded into video messaging with Loom and agentic AI through Rovo, and derives almost all of its revenue from cloud subscriptions after retiring its self-hosted server products.
