Overview
The Technology Innovation Institute is an Abu Dhabi research organisation founded in 2020 under the Advanced Technology Research Council, set up as the applied research pillar of the United Arab Emirates' science strategy. It runs a dozen dedicated research centres covering artificial intelligence, quantum computing, autonomous robotics, cryptography, advanced materials, propulsion and secure systems, staffed by researchers recruited internationally. Its highest-profile output is the Falcon family of large language models, released with open weights and for a period the strongest open model available anywhere, which established the Gulf as a serious participant in frontier AI research.
