Advanced Development Leader

Job Description:

Allegion is seeking an Advanced Development Leader to lead advanced technology exploration and transition activities that accelerate product innovation across electromechanical and electronic solutions. This role combines technical leadership, R&D program management, and cross-functional collaboration to identify, validate and mature new technologies from concept through pilot and hand-off to product teams. The Advanced Development Leader will shape the technology roadmap, manage internal and external partnerships, and ensure development efforts align to business goals and regulatory requirements.

What You Will Do:

• Define and execute the technology development roadmap aligned to business strategy and product roadmaps; prioritize projects that deliver differentiated customer value and competitive advantage.
• Lead ideation, feasibility studies, prototyping, pilot programs and technology demonstrations across electrical, embedded, IoT, sensing, and related domains.
• Manage and lead a small cross-functional technology team (firmware/electrical/mechanical resources) and coordinate with Global Advanced Development teams, Engineering teams and partners.
• Establish and implement design controls and reproducible validation methods for technology readiness assessments.
• Drive technology transfer activities-create handover plans, documentation, test protocols and technology readiness criteria to transition validated technologies to product development teams.
• Build and manage external partnerships with suppliers, universities, contract research organizations and startups; negotiate scopes, IP terms and budgets.
• Oversee technical risks, IP strategy (patent disclosure, freedom-to-operate), and compliance considerations for new technologies.
• Prepare and present business cases, technical reviews and recommendation reports to senior leadership for investment decisions.
• Provide portfolio dashboards and metrics; Track metrics and ROI for technology initiatives; continuously refine processes to improve throughput and impact.
• Mentor and develop technical staff; cultivate a culture of experimentation, disciplined validation and data-driven decision making.

What You Need to Succeed:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related technical field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Typically, 10+ years of engineering experience with 4+ years in R&D, technology development or advanced engineering roles; experience managing small teams or programs.
• Proven track record of leading technology projects from concept through prototype/pilot and successful hand-off to product development.
• Broad technical fluency across electronics, embedded firmware, sensors and connectivity (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, BLE, etc.).
• Strong experience with verification and experimental design.
• Demonstrated ability to create technical roadmaps, build business cases, and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing external collaborations and suppliers, including negotiating technical scope and IP terms.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work across distributed and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to balance multiple research projects and priorities simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in security, access control, smart locks, building hardware or related industries.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and certifications (UL, FCC, CE, etc.).
• Experience with requirements management, test management and data analysis tools.
• Formal training in project management (PMP), Agile or Six Sigma.
• Experience working with Global R&D, Technology Partners and supply chains
