Overview
The DSP Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development, implementation, and validation of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms for audio and voice communication products. This role develops advanced audio processing solutions to enhance voice quality, speech recognition, and overall acoustic performance across a range of communication devices and audio systems.
The DSP Engineer designs and optimizes algorithms for audio front-end processing, speech enhancement, acoustic echo cancellation, noise reduction, and multi-microphone beamforming, as well as music and audio enhancement technologies. Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, this position evaluates system requirements, develops and tests signal processing solutions, and supports the integration of algorithms into embedded and software-based products. The role requires strong expertise in DSP theory, audio acoustics, and algorithm development, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical challenges and contribute to the delivery of high-performance audio solutions.
Responsibilities
Design and Develop Audio DSP Algorithms
Design, implement, and tune real-time audio signal processing algorithms for speech and audio applications, including filtering, equalization, dynamics processing, acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), noise suppression, automatic gain control (AGC), and related audio enhancement technologies.
Optimize DSP Performance on Embedded Platforms
Implement and optimize DSP algorithms on embedded processors, including ARM-based systems and DSP cores. Analyze and improve computational efficiency, memory usage, latency, and overall system performance to ensure reliable real-time operation within platform constraints.
Evaluate and Validate Audio Performance
Conduct objective and subjective audio testing to assess algorithm effectiveness and system performance. Use measurement tools, data analysis techniques, and critical listening evaluations to identify issues, recommend improvements, and validate product requirements.
Collaborate Across Engineering Teams
Work closely with software, hardware, acoustics, systems, and product engineering teams to integrate DSP features into commercial products. Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, debugging activities, and product validation efforts throughout the development lifecycle.
Develop Engineering Tools and Automation
Create and maintain scripts, test tools, and automation frameworks that support algorithm development, tuning, regression testing, and performance validation. Help improve development efficiency and testing coverage through practical automation solutions.
Document Technical Work and Results
Prepare clear and thorough documentation for DSP designs, implementation approaches, testing methodologies, and performance results. Maintain organized records that support knowledge sharing, product development, and long-term maintainability.
Continue Learning and Advancing DSP Expertise
Stay current with industry trends, emerging audio technologies, and best practices in digital signal processing. Apply new techniques and concepts to improve products and expand technical capabilities.
