General Dynamics is an American defence and aerospace group whose predecessor built submarines from 1899, and it is unusual among primes for owning a large commercial business alongside its military ones. Its four segments are Marine Systems, which builds Virginia and Columbia class submarines and Navy destroyers, Combat Systems, which makes the Abrams tank and armoured vehicles, Aerospace, which builds Gulfstream business jets, and Technologies, its government IT and mission services arm. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, its submarine programmes carry a backlog measured in decades.

Build bold. Deliver impact. Win together.

At General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada, we’re not just engineering technology - we’re shaping the future of defence and security. Our teams design and deliver advanced, mission-critical solutions that enhance national security, strengthen communities, and protect the people we serve.

If you’re looking for meaningful work that contributes to a safer, more secure world, you’ll find purpose here. Every day, your skills will directly impact programs that matter.

We’re looking for Systems Engineering Analyst to join our Systems of Systems (SoS) team and help design and evolve complex, mission-critical technology for the Canadian Armed Forces. As part of the LC5ISR-T (Land Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance - Targeting) program, you’ll work across multiple engineering disciplines to help bring together communications systems, tactical radios and telephony, core networks, intelligence and surveillance assets, battle management systems, and information management capabilities. You’ll help define how these systems interact, communicate, and operate together as one integrated capability.

Based in either our Ottawa or Calgary facility, the ideal candidate would undertake a number of different initiatives, including (but not limited to) developing system requirements, modelling the system using MBSE techniques, and contextualizing the operational use cases of the system.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Develop activity, sequence, use case, and block definition diagrams to describe mission scenarios and use cases;
  • Develop system requirements, interface specifications, and end-to-end information flows;
  • Manage the traceability of higher-level requirements to lower-level requirements and to test artifacts;
  • Utilize Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques to develop Operational and System Views according to DNDAF and UAF;
  • Support testing activities including verification and validation of requirements;
  • Present status updates and conduct reviews with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Assume responsibility for deliverables and work products, and ensure program commitments and achieving program milestones are met.
  • Work with the customer, the Department of National Defence (DND) to elicit and define System requirements and desired capabilities

What You Need to Have to Succeed includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or applicable scientific discipline is required;
  • 5+ years of applicable system engineering or related experience;
  • Experience working with complex systems;
  • Extensive experience deriving, writing, and linking requirements in a database;
  • Experience utilizing MBSE techniques and tools to model complex systems;
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong verbal and written communications skills;
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment;
  • Passion for mentorship and sharing knowledge;
  • Demonstrated capability of meeting commitments and delivering high quality work products; and
  • Knowledge of the trends in the needs of the military and of the operational context of deployed soldiers.
  • Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

The hiring range for this position is $95 000 - $110 000
