[What Data Science TAP is]  

As a Data Scientist, you will play an integral role in turning data into decisions - building and deploying the machine learning and AI that informs public policies and make public services more responsive, personalised and trustworthy for everyone in Singapore. The work spans a few key areas. 

• Turning real world challenges into data science problems.  We start with the people we serve. Working closely with agencies, we translate real-world challenges into problems that data and machine learning can solve, finding the right data, shaping it, and choosing the approach that actually fits the question rather than the fanciest model. 

• Models thatdeliver public good tothe real world. An insight is more meaningfulwhen it changes something. We build, evaluate and deploy machine learning models into production and keep them accurate and trustworthy over time, so that what we create leads to better decisions and better services, not just good results in a notebook. 

• Working at the frontier of AI. The field moves fast, and so do we. We experiment with the latest in AI, from large language models and agentic systems to multimodal and generative AI, testing what genuinely works on government problems and applying it responsibly, with care for privacy, fairness and public trust. 

Through the Technology Associate Programme (TAP), you'll build a strong foundation in Data Science by working alongside experienced Data Scientists and solving real problems for the benefit of our citizens. Structured rotations, mentorship and hands-on project experience will deepen your technical craft, build your confidence and expose you to different problem spaces across the Whole-of-Government. 

Whether you're framing a business challenge as a data science problem, engineering features and training models, deploying and monitoring them in production, or exploring how the latest AI can transform the way government works, you'll contribute meaningfully while building the skills and judgement that define a great data scientist.

[What we are looking out for]  

• You are a Singapore citizen or Singaporean Permanent Resident 
• Graduating from university and able to commencework in 2027, or with less than one year of work experience 
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field 
• Proficiencyin programming languages such as Python
• A solid grounding in statistics, probabilityand machine learning fundamentals  
• Familiarity with common data science and machine learning libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorchor TensorFlow 
• Exposure to cloud technologies such as AWS, Azureor GCP, with an interest in taking models from experiment to production 
• Interest in modern AI, such as large language models and generative AI, and the judgement to use AI tools critically and evaluating their performances rather than accepting their output at face value 
• Curiosity and a genuine willingness to learn new domains 
• Inclination to work in a collaborative, fast-moving Agile environment 
• Strong communicationskills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and data-driven insights clearly to a diverse audience 
• Critical and systems thinking, approaching problems with curiosity rather than accepting them at face value 
• A passion for improving public service and delivering public good through data
