2027 Summer Internship - Editorial and Marketing, Thomas Nelson Fiction (Nashville, TN Hybrid)

Overview

The fiction intern will be responsible for assisting all Thomas Nelson fiction, both editorially and marketing.

Responsibilities

• Attend team meetings, including but not limited to titling, staff, title alignment, production, editorial, marketing, and sales conference
• Assist team in managing the proposal log (tracking and distribution of proposals sent from agents and authors)
• Assist with filing for CIP data and copyrights
• Acquire working knowledge of standard proofreading marks and The Chicago Manual of Style by shadowing and assisting with page proofs, final pass proofs, and manuscript styling and basic application
• Gain experience in drafting/reviewing catalog and back cover copy
• Acquire working knowledge of data optimization and help in optimizing retailer copy for backlist and frontlist titles
• Help to implement promotional campaigns
• Help gather author input for PR pitches
• Learn to manage Librarian and Reviewer requests through NetGalley
• Help manage the creation & distribution of ARCs to reviewers, media, authors, and sales
• Research marketing trends
• Assist in mailings
• Some clerical work (e.g. photocopying, printing and binding manuscripts, filing, email, note taking, etc)

Qualifications

• Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2027 or 2028 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to 1 year of work experience.
• Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, from June 7 to August 12, 2027. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are mandatory in-office days at our Nashville headquarters, while Mondays and Thursdays are remote workdays. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour.

• Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
• A passion for books is highly valued!

• A previous internship within publishing preferred but not required

• English or journalism majors preferred

• Candidates should have a passionate interest in the publishing industry, with a specific passion for fiction preferred. General understanding of the Christian market is a plus, but not required.
