Are you an experienced software developer with a passion for finding creative solutions to real-world problems?

Then Jobber might be the place for you! We're looking for Senior Software Engineers to be part of our Product Software Engineering team.

At Jobber, we don’t just build a product - we work on real problems that help people in small businesses to become successful. We are inspired by our company values: be humble, be supportive and give a sh*t, which are not just said but are lived. We work in a collaborative environment where teams make decisions with autonomy and contribute directly to shaping the company’s future. We release early and often while dedicating time to addressing technical debt. We believe in getting instant feedback from our customers and leveraging that to make their lives easier.

We help employees grow professionally; we have a ton of onboarding resources, tutorials, hackathons, and buddies to support learnings and provide opportunities to innovate. We have a range of experience levels on teams which allow for mentor/mentee opportunities. Leaders at Jobber work with empathy and support employees to build a healthy work-life harmony. Bring your dedication and passion to this job to fulfill your goals.

You could join one of the following teams:

Expansion: This team is dedicated to empowering users to make informed decisions that drive their business success. By ensuring easy access to and seamless adoption of our full range of innovative solutions, the team delivers intuitive user experiences that maximize the value of our product offerings. Key focus areas include enhancing upgrade and downgrade journeys and enabling product-led discovery of features, ensuring every customer can unlock their full potential with our platform.

Bookkeeping & Accounting: The Bookkeeping & Accounting team is on a mission to become the financial backbone of home service businesses. We build Jobber's bookkeeping product, integrating with financial platforms, syncing transaction data, and delivering accurate, trusted books that let small business owners focus on their craft. Joining this team means working on something genuinely hard with real stakes and a clear path to impact for the service providers who rely on us every day.

Fintech Systems: Fintech Systems is the platform team behind Jobber's payments and financial infrastructure. Our job is making sure money moves reliably: that payments, payouts, refunds, and disputes are accurate, observable, and auditable, and that Jobber is the source of truth for our service providers' financial data. We support the fintech product teams through deep technical investment in the platform they build on, which means reducing operational overhead, keeping financial systems stable and correct, and upholding the regulatory and compliance expectations that come with handling money.

Quotemeal: The Quotemeal team powers Jobber’s quoting and estimating experience, helping service providers win more work with less effort. We build flexible, high-impact web and mobile solutions that make quoting a seamless experience for our customers and their clients. Joining this team is an opportunity to create intuitive solutions that help service providers grow their business!

Comms Systems: The Communication Systems team powers the messaging infrastructure within Jobber, enabling customers to send merely 20M texts and emails per month. Communication is central to our core product strategy, and this team provides the foundation that allows other teams to focus on high-priority work. Partnering with industry leaders like Twilio and SendGrid we deliver reliable, scalable communication tools. Joining this team is an opportunity to work on backend systems critical to shaping the future of communication within the platform!

At Jobber we never stop growing and learning, and you shouldn’t either. Through continuous 1:1s, dedicated feedback and support from your manager and our Learning and Development team, and your own sense of curiosity, we hope you develop to another level with your skill set.

The role:

Reporting to the Manager, Software Engineering, the Senior Software Engineer will collaborate with other Software Development members on a Scrum team to build an industry-leading product that helps our customers and their small businesses be successful. We’re looking for people who are ready to solve problems that millions of entrepreneurs are facing, using their experience to influence both a product and our team, all the while still working on developing their own craft.

In this role, it’s important that you’re a champion of best practices for well-tested, scalable, and well-organized code. In addition, you customize, extend and experiment with tools, models, harnesses and processes to increase the effectiveness of yourself, your team and mentor others to do the same.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

  • Be involved in the full life-cycle of a feature, from ideation to delivery and adoption

  • Participate in code review and testing, while driving engineering solutions to have consistent practices and reusable code

  • Facilitate group discussions with team members and stakeholders to determine the best solution to our customer's problems

  • Research, communicate, and advocate for the use of best practices within your team’s domain

  • Mentor and coach junior teammates, helping them elevate their skills and careers

  • Understand how and why our customers work the way they do, so you can develop and improve features in Jobber's online and mobile apps

  • Build with AI as a core part of how you work. We expect engineers to delegate real work to agents daily, verify what comes back, and keep improving their own setup so each task makes the next one easier.

To be successful, you should have:

  • A demonstrated level of senior software engineering experience on a full-stack development team

  • You have a track record of learning and writing quality code in multiple languages, though experience with Javascript/TypeScript is required (We use Ruby on Rails, React & React Native with TypeScript)

  • Experience with the entire software development lifecycle in the Agile/Scrum framework

  • A strong systems focus, on building foundational software for large at-scale applications

  • Ability to quickly move between different features and projects with a strong interest in experimentation

  • A structured understanding of common full-stack frameworks, architectures, technologies, and patterns

  • An inquisitive mindset; ability to ask a lot of questions, seek out new information, and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.

  • The ability to self-serve, take initiative, and find resources necessary to accomplish a project or solve a problem

  • Enthusiasm for delivering value early and often to customers

  • Experience providing technical mentorship and sharing industry best practices, helping team members navigate complex engineering challenges and stay involved with the latest technologies and trends

  • Daily hands-on experience building with agentic AI tools, beyond autocomplete or chat: you delegate real work to agents as part of how you ship.

It would be really great (but not a deal-breaker) if you had:

  • Exposure or experience in a tech leadership role

  • Kafka knowledge and some basic AWS knowledge (e.g. Lambda, ECS, EC2)

  • Experience using Ruby on Rails, React, and GraphQL in a production environment

Hiring Process:

  • An interview with a Talent team member (45 mins)

  • A Hiring Manager Interview (60 mins)

  • A take-home challenge with a follow-up Functional Interview (90 mins)

  • A Senior Leadership Interview (30 mins)

Location:

We believe great collaboration is intentional, and sometimes that means coming together in person to build, brainstorm, and connect. To support this, the role is open to candidates based in one of our hub cities: Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, or Kitchener-Waterloo.

Compensation:

At Jobber, we believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $125,800, a midpoint of $147,900, and a maximum salary of $170,100, designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling.

We design our compensation to reflect each new hire's skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. The higher end of the range is reserved for those who have demonstrated deep expertise and lasting contributions, while offers below the midpoint reflect strong potential with room to develop. This approach ensures that compensation aligns with both an individual's current capabilities and their opportunity for future growth.

Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. Your professional growth matters to us too! You'll have access to a dedicated talent development program that includes career coaching and opportunities for career development. We believe in transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have any questions about our approach, we're happy to discuss them throughout the hiring process!

What you can expect from Jobber:

  • A total compensation package that includes an extended health benefits package with fully paid premiums for both body and mind, matching in RRSP, TFSA or FHSA, and stock options.

  • A dedicated Talent Development team and access to coaching, learning, and leadership programs to help you grow your career, reach your goals, and unlock your full potential.

  • A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a $400-billion industry that has no dominant player...yet.

  • To work with a group of people who are humble, supportive, and give a sh*t about our customers.

We believe that diverse teams perform better and that fostering an inclusive work environment is a key part of growing a successful team. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to working with applicants requesting accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.
