Backend Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Developer based in India.

This is a remote, contract opportunity for a mid-to-senior Backend Developer focused on building reliable and scalable Python services.

You’ll design and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices that support cloud-based applications and business-critical workloads.

The role has a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure, with opportunities to work across cloud infrastructure, containers, automation, and deployment.

You’ll contribute across the development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to testing, CI/CD, and production operations.

Working within an Agile/Scrum environment, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to technical decisions and code reviews.

The position offers an opportunity to work with modern backend technologies while solving challenges around scalability, performance, security, and reliability.

Additional experience in data engineering, Go, React, infrastructure as code, or event-driven systems can further expand your impact.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize backend services and applications using Python.
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and microservice architectures using frameworks such as FastAPI and/or Django.
• Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based solutions primarily on Microsoft Azure, including services such as App Services, Functions, AKS, and Azure Storage.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing workflows, and reliable deployment processes.
• Develop and operate containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Apply sound cloud architecture principles to improve application scalability, performance, availability, and reliability.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, querying, optimization, and integration with backend services.
• Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, technical planning, architecture discussions, and collaborative code reviews.
• Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices to ensure software quality.
• Apply secure development and cloud security best practices throughout backend and infrastructure workflows.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional and distributed teams, communicating technical concepts clearly in English.
• Contribute to continuous improvements in development workflows, engineering practices, and production systems.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience as a Python Backend Developer at mid-to-senior level.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services, particularly App Services, Functions, AKS, Storage, or comparable technologies; GCP experience may be considered as an alternative.
• Professional experience with FastAPI and/or Django.
• Proven ability to design and develop RESTful APIs and scalable microservice architectures.
• Solid understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and data modeling.
• Understanding of cloud architecture patterns, scalability, performance optimization, and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing methodologies.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative software development workflows.
• Awareness of security best practices for backend applications and cloud environments.
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and international teams.
• Experience with Databricks or other data engineering platforms is a plus.
• Commercial experience with Golang is an advantage.
• Full-stack development experience, particularly with React, is a plus.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates is desirable.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka or Azure Service Bus is an advantage.
