This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of critical database infrastructure within a data-driven, international environment. You will focus heavily on PostgreSQL administration, performance optimization, security, reliability, and scalability across core data systems. Beyond hands-on DBA responsibilities, you will translate business needs into actionable data engineering priorities and help ensure technical solutions support broader organizational objectives. You will collaborate closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders while guiding the team on database, reporting, and data management best practices. The position also places a strong emphasis on modern AI and automation, using emerging tools to improve database operations, testing, reliability, and software delivery. Accountabilities:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL databases, with additional responsibility for SQL Server and Oracle environments, ensuring strong performance, availability, scalability, and security.
- Design and maintain database schemas, indexes, partitions, and related structures to support efficient queries, growing data volumes, and long-term scalability.
- Monitor database health and performance, identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement query and infrastructure optimizations.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to support operational resilience and business continuity.
- Implement and maintain database security practices, including access controls, encryption, auditing, and other measures designed to protect sensitive data.
- Ensure database environments comply with applicable data governance requirements, internal security policies, and relevant industry standards.
- Participate in daily standups, prioritize technical work, and align engineering activities with evolving business needs and organizational priorities.
- Translate business requirements into well-defined data engineering and database administration tasks, helping the team focus effort where it delivers the greatest business value.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data solutions and Power BI-related initiatives are technically sound and aligned with business objectives.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members while promoting best practices across database management, reporting, data quality, and operational processes.
- Apply modern AI models and developer tools to improve PostgreSQL performance tuning, database reliability validation, migration planning, testing, and operational runbook automation.
- Use AI-assisted approaches to generate test scenarios, expand regression coverage, identify edge cases, and improve the efficiency of engineering workflows.
- Build practical automation that reduces repetitive manual work while maintaining appropriate standards for quality, security, reliability, and auditability.
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs critically, select appropriate models and tools for specific tasks, and apply secure approaches when working with sensitive or business-critical data.
- Identify opportunities for measurable efficiency gains, including faster delivery cycles, improved system stability, reduced operational effort, and greater predictability across engineering activities.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database administration, particularly performance tuning, optimization, security, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
- Experience administering or supporting additional relational database technologies such as SQL Server and Oracle.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, schema design, indexing, partitioning, query optimization, availability, and scalability.
- Practical experience with database monitoring, troubleshooting, disaster recovery planning, and operational reliability.
- Solid knowledge of database security principles, including access management, encryption, auditing, governance, and protection of sensitive information.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and a structured approach to diagnosing technical issues.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize workloads, manage competing requirements, and align technical execution with business objectives.
- Leadership and mentoring capabilities, with the confidence to guide team members and establish effective data management and engineering practices.
- Experience translating business requirements into actionable technical tasks and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with Power BI and data reporting environments is beneficial, although direct Power BI development is not required.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern AI models and developer tooling, with the ability to apply AI to software delivery, database operations, and engineering productivity.
- Experience using AI for PostgreSQL performance tuning, reliability validation, migration planning, operational automation, and testing workflows.
- Ability to create automation that delivers measurable improvements while preserving quality, security, and auditability.
- Sound judgment when evaluating AI-generated outputs, including the ability to select suitable tools and apply secure patterns when handling sensitive data.
- Demonstrated track record of using automation or AI to improve efficiency, stability, delivery speed, or operational predictability.
- Availability to work U.S. Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours while based in Brazil.
