Research Contracts Specialist

The Research Contract Specialist is responsible for providing assistance in the administration of grants

and contracts including reviewing, maintaining data and performing related assigned responsibilities,

ensuring activities comply with University policies, financial issues, and the proper and ethical conduct

of research.

Operational Responsibilities

• Assist in the development and execution of processes and procedures relating to contracts and grants to meet University requirements
• Analyze and evaluate research proposals and contracts, and obtain proper approval of projects in compliance with budgetary agreements, and provincial and University requirements
• Provide assistance to Principal Investigators (PIs) on grant/contract protocol, compliance, financial, budgetary and administrative matters, adhering to the University’s policies and procedures
• Guide and facilitate faculty and staff in the understanding of research proposals, contracts and agreements associated with external funding, to include budgets, documentation and interpretation of research project approval process
• Contribute to the development and acceptance recommendation of PI project budgets for internal and external grants, address any inconsistencies and provide approvals consistent with terms and conditions, as required
• Make adjustments and revisions necessary to reflect changes in contracts and grants requirements
• Ensure contract compliance with University’s policies, government laws and sponsor guidelines
• Establish and maintain effective communication and cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders critical to the research enterprise
• Serve as a central liaison between the University, funding agencies and contract entities
• Maintain complete and accurate collection of research project data and ensure their availability when needed.
• Assist the Director for Research Services with administrative support of research funding and disseminate related data, information and reports to support strategic decision making.
• Ensure process is in place within the University for proper handling and smooth flow of internal and external grants, in accordance with published procedures and timelines.
• Ensure adherence to the University's information security policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
• Ensure coordination with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by Line Manager.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in in Engineering or Science related field

Required Experience

A minimum 5 years of experience
