Liquid Robotics (a Boeing subsidiary) is a marine robotics and ocean data platform company. Headquartered in Herndon, Virginia - with dedicated engineering and testing facilities in Kamuela, Hawaii - the company designs and manufactures autonomous uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), led by its flagship Wave Glider platform. Its ocean robots harvest wave motion for continuous propulsion and solar energy for onboard computing, communications, and sensor payloads, allowing vehicles to operate at sea for up to a year without fuel, crew, or emissions.

Description

Senior Verification Engineer

Liquid Robotics is seeking a Senior Verification Engineer to own test creation and execution for Wave Glider systems and associated payloads. This on-site role in Jessup, MD and will work closely with systems engineers, field support, mechanical, electrical, and software teammates to define verification strategies, develop test artifacts, execute verification campaigns, and produce objective evidence of requirement compliance. The Senior Verification Engineer will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and be a technical leader for verification activities across projects.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end verification for assigned subsystems or systems: develop verification plans, map tests to requirements, and define acceptance criteria.
  • Create, document, and maintain test cases, test procedures, and test scripts for laboratory, production, integration, and field verification.
  • Execute verification tests (manual and automated), collect and analyze data, and produce clear test reports and pass/fail summaries.
  • Develop and maintain test infrastructure: harnesses, fixtures, data acquisition, automation scripts, and simulation/testbenches as needed.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, design teams, and field support to ensure tests are realistic, repeatable, and cover critical failure modes.
  • Lead verification efforts for design changes (ECO/ECRs), regression campaigns, and qualification activities; verify corrective actions and validate fixes.
  • Support root cause analysis by designing targeted verification tests and providing technical evidence to isolate and close issues.
  • Ensure traceability of verification artifacts to requirements and maintain verification status for project baselines.
  • Mentor junior verification and test engineers; promote verification best practices and drive improvements to test processes and tooling.
  • Participate in design and requirements reviews to influence testability and identify verification needs early in the lifecycle.

Key Attributes

  • Strong systems-thinking and the ability to translate requirements into practical, measurable verification activities.
  • Comfortable with hands-on laboratory and integration work while also developing automated test scripts and data-analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; capable of producing concise, evidence-based verification reports.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams and present verification status to stakeholders.
  • Proactive, organized, and able to prioritize verification tasks in support of project schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience with a significant portion focused on verification, test engineering, or validation in electro-mechanical or embedded systems (maritime, robotics, aerospace, or similar industries preferred).
  • Proven experience developing verification plans, writing test procedures, and executing verification campaigns across hardware and software domains.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, data acquisition systems) and scripting languages/tools for automation and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar).
  • Familiarity with requirements traceability, configuration control, and ECR/ECO processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience supporting root cause analyses across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Familiarity with the Liquid Robotics Wave Glider system is a plus.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
