Litebox is a boutique digital agency on a mission to help teams build unique products. We work with some of the most innovative companies in Silicon Valley - partnering with startups and tech leaders in San Francisco to craft digital experiences we can genuinely be proud of. We believe that how we work matters just as much as what we ship.
As an AI-First company, we look for leaders who think like makers: curious, pragmatic, and eager to leverage every tool at their disposal - especially AI - to accelerate problem-solving, unblock teams, and elevate execution. We value how you reason, communicate, and align people more than rigid methodologies or process theater.
This role is for an Engineering Manager: someone who cares deeply about people, who can create the conditions for teams to perform at their best, and who elevates engineering through clarity, collaboration, and high-trust environments. You won’t be writing code day-to-day, but you’ll be expected to shape engineering practices, nurture talent, support strategic technical decisions, and ensure delivery happens sustainably.
If you’re passionate about developing engineers, aligning product and business, and building teams that embody healthy engineering culture, Litebox is the place for you
Location: LATAM
Type: Contractor
Responsibilities
- Partner with Tech Leads to ensure technical execution, delivery quality, and alignment with engineering standards.
- Provide guidance and support primarily to Tech Leads (and indirectly to engineers), enabling autonomy, clarity, and continuous improvement in execution.
- Collaborate closely with the COO (to whom this role reports directly) to translate business priorities into actionable engineering plans.
- Partner with Product and Design to align strategy, priorities, and expectations, reducing ambiguity and clearing paths for execution.
- Ensure delivery planning is realistic, sustainable, and aligned with product and business goals.
- Facilitate high-trust communication, constructive feedback, and healthy decision-making across teams.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, workflows, documentation, technical practices, quality, and observability.
- Support talent decisions and team design (hiring, onboarding, role clarity, and performance signals) to grow engineering thoughtfully.
- Help shape engineering culture, rituals, and operating mechanisms that scale as the organization evolves.
- Use AI tools to accelerate reasoning, documentation, decision-making, and communication.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional contexts, surfacing risks early and proposing pragmatic, data-aware solutions.
- Maintain visibility of timelines, dependencies, and risks across teams, and ensure blockers are escalated and resolved quickly.
Values Alignment (critical for this role)Engineering leadership at Litebox is grounded in how we work, not just what we deliver. We look for leaders who:
Collaborate always
→ create environments where all voices are heard, information flows transparently, and teams move as a unit, not as individuals.
Evolve continuously
→ treat feedback, iteration, and experimentation as core mechanisms for improvement - in people, processes, and decisions.
Are flexible
→ stay resilient under uncertainty, adapt quickly to new contexts, and support teammates through change.
Pursue excellence
→ care about quality, details, and outcomes, while keeping a balanced, pragmatic approach to execution and business realities.
Build trust
→ foster psychological safety, hold constructive conversations, and treat people with respect and empathy.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles (EM, Lead, Staff, or similar).
- Experience developing and retaining engineering talent.
- Experience managing delivery, priorities, and cross-functional alignment.
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to influence without relying on authority; bias toward clarity and collaboration.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making informed trade-offs.
- Experience working with distributed teams across time zones.
- English proficiency (B2 or higher).
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a software engineer (IC) before moving into management.
- Experience in product-driven and/or agency environments.
- Experience designing or operating performance review processes.
- Exposure to scaling engineering orgs (practices, hiring, structure, rituals).
- Interest in AI-augmented workflows to improve engineering decision-making.
