Full Stack Software Engineer

Build technology that makes a difference.

Manulife is a leading international financial services provider, helping people make decisions easier and lives better. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful digital experiences, solve complex engineering challenges, and work alongside talented people who care about delivering technology the right way.

Help craft the future you want to see, and discover that better can take you anywhere you want to go.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer who enjoys working across the technology stack and turning ideas into modern, scalable digital solutions.

You’ll contribute throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from design and prototyping through development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. You’ll build engaging front-end experiences with React while developing and integrating APIs and server-side services, all within a collaborative Agile and DevOps environment.

If you enjoy solving challenging problems, experimenting with new approaches, and building high-quality products that create a better digital experience, this could be a great next step.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, test, deliver, maintain, and continuously improve full-stack business applications.
  • Build modern, responsive, reusable user experiences using React, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Design and integrate APIs, databases, server-side logic, and front-end components.
  • Develop reusable and maintainable React components using technologies such as Redux.
  • Apply disciplined engineering practices, design patterns, automation, and semantic versioning to deliver high-quality software.
  • Build automated tests and test harnesses that support reliable releases and continuous integration.
  • Perform technical spikes and prototypes to evaluate ideas, reduce uncertainty, and solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Troubleshoot defects, improve application performance, and continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of our software.
  • Build digital experiences with accessibility and mobile responsiveness at the forefront, including alignment with WCAG 2.1.
  • Work within modern CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
  • Participate in design discussions, brainstorming, code reviews, and peer collaboration.
  • Partner with business, product, design, and technology stakeholders to transform requirements into effective digital solutions.
  • Create technical documentation to support deployment, maintenance, operations, and evolving business needs.
  • Share your expertise with other engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What You Bring

  • 3-5 years of professional Full Stack Software Engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with React, Node.js, Express, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
  • Experience building and testing modern front-end applications.
  • Strong knowledge of React component architecture and Redux, with an emphasis on reusable, efficient, maintainable components.
  • Understanding of React server-side rendering.
  • Strong CSS expertise and experience building responsive, scalable user interfaces.
  • Experience developing digital products with accessibility built into the design and development lifecycle.
  • Experience developing applications in alignment with accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1.
  • Understanding of Agile, DevOps, automated testing, continuous integration, API development, and database design.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts, options, and outcomes.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to understand and respond to the needs of clients and stakeholders.

Even Better If You Have

  • Experience or exposure to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
  • Cloud development experience using Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or a similar container platform.
  • Experience with PaaS and microservices architectures.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins or TeamCity.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with code quality and application security tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, and WebInspect.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and a genuine interest in helping other developers grow.

Why Join Us?

At Manulife, you’ll have the opportunity to do more than write code. You’ll help shape digital experiences, influence technical solutions, learn from people across different disciplines, and continue expanding your skills.

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.
  • We’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.
  • As part of our distributed team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
