Student Recruitment Manager (Quebec and Virtual)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Associate Director, Recruitment and Communications, this role will support the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of recruitment and yield strategies developed for the Quebec market and virtual recruitment programming. The incumbent will provide quality advice and service on a diverse range of admissions matters to applicants, students, staff, the public, and senior management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to and participates in the implementation of initiatives that support the strategic direction of the unit and university enrolment priorities for undergraduate admissions by keeping abreast of best practices, new developments, technology, and trends in the fields of recruitment and enrolment.
  • Collaborates with other Managers and Supervisors on the Recruitment and Communications team to support the Associate Director with the overall management of day-to-day functions of the department.
  • Provides admissions, recruitment, scholarships, and student services information in support of the University's mission of academic excellence.
  • , Develops, manages and delivers virtual programming for domestic and international prospective students, applicants, and admitted students creating opportunities for them to engage with various units at the university, including but not limited to professors, advisors, and student services staff.
  • Plans, evaluates, reports, and makes recommendations on new initiatives or improvements to current virtual recruitment programming in alignment with enrolment priorities and in collaboration with the Recruitment and Communications Managers and Welcome Centre Supervisor. Proposes and delivers a variety of virtual recruitment activities, including hosting webinars through Zoom, Slate, Webex, as well as drop-in sessions and fairs hosted by third parties, etc.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the Quebec recruitment and yield strategy through planning, execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement. Ensures follow-up on issues raised during and after visits/events for all Quebec applicant pools.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with recruitment and admissions personnel working in faculties to explore opportunities for collaboration for Quebec recruitment and yield and ensure alignment of McGill’s undergraduate enrolment efforts in Quebec.
  • Analyzes, develops, and recommends to the Associate Director an annual communications plan for virtual recruitment activities and Quebec recruitment, and manages, in consultation with the Recruitment and Communications Managers, a virtual recruitment calendar that takes into consideration the unit’s global recruitment and yield strategy and the needs of each region (domestic and international).
  • Uses the current recruiting software to plan, schedule, and track activities, budgets and KPIs. Develops appropriate measurement criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual recruitment programming and Quebec recruitment events and activities, which includes, but is not limited to providing data and other information required to support the planning, implementation and measurement (KPIs) of recruitment strategies and activities.
  • Reports on market activity through targeted observations, research, professional networks, and internal and external reports.
  • Participates in budget planning and recommends resource allocation for Quebec and virtual recruitment.
  • Participates and supports biannual recruitment trainings and takes part in professional development activities to remain well informed of university practices and programs, and ensures strong delivery of information, and support of prospective students and their support networks.
  • Responsible for the hire and supervision of direct reports, workload distribution, continual evaluation, including training and development. Manages and coaches a team of unionized staff members. Acts as resource person in handling conflicts and difficult situations. Empowers staff by mentoring and coaching. Ensures that direct reports are well informed of University practices and programs to ensure strong delivery of information and in support of our prospective students and their support networks by the recruitment team.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with Faculties and other internal McGill units to explore opportunities for collaboration to support recruitment in accordance with established Enrolment Services goals and objectives and the University's overall mission.
  • Represents McGill, attends in-person, virtual and on-campus events as well as CEGEP and high school visits in Quebec, prepares and delivers presentations and documents and ensures meetings and follow up with students (as needed), including regarding any opportunities or issues raised during and after visits
  • Represents the Recruitment team on working groups, project teams and committees, as required.
  • May be called upon to support the Welcome Centre, by meeting with prospective student visitors and answering individual questions.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Supervisory experience a requirement. Experience advising potential students on admissions criteria. Knowledge of the student life cycle. Experience in student recruitment in Quebec. McGill undergraduate experience an asset. Ability to support staff in their daily recruitment and administrative operations. Proven experience in data analysis: ability to review statistics and reports, condense, recap, and evaluate data to propose and plan effective recruitment activities. Proven organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and multi-task accurately with attention to detail. Experience working in a PC environment using databases, presentation software, web tools, CRMs, and Microsoft Teams. Excellent interpersonal, communication, public speaking, and writing skills. Proven experience organizing events and fairs locally and at out-of-town venues. Experience in the creation of dynamic presentations, an asset. Proven ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team. Valid Quebec Driver’s license and valid Passport. Availability to travel short and long distances extensively and using various modes of transportation. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, and weekends.
