Key responsibilities
Database administration
• Install, configure, patch and upgrade SQL Server (2016–2022) and Oracle (12c–19c) instances on Windows and Linux.
• Manage schemas, users, roles, tablespaces/filegroups, storage growth and capacity planning.
• Maintain configuration standards, runbooks and an up-to-date inventory of all database instances.
High availability and disaster recovery
• Design, implement and operate SQL Server Always OnAvailability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances and log shipping.
• Design, implement and operate Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard (physical and logical standby, Fast-Start Failover, Broker).
• Own the DR runbook: schedule and lead switchover/failover drills at least twice a year and document results.
• Monitor replication lag, apply gap and standby health daily; resolve gaps and re-sync standbys.
Replication and data movement
• Configure and support SQL Server transactional, merge and snapshot replication, Change Data Capture and linked servers.
• Configure and support Oracle GoldenGate, Streams/Advanced Replication, materialized views and database links.
• Troubleshoot replication conflicts, latency and agent failures.
Backup and recovery
• Define and run backup strategy (full, differential, log; RMAN incremental and archive-log backups) meeting the organization's RPO/RTO.
• Test restores monthly and keep evidence for audit.
Development support
• Write, review and optimize views, stored procedures, functions, triggers and packages (T-SQL and PL/SQL).
• Review application schema changes and deployment scripts before release to production.
• Support core-banking, channel (mobile, USSD, card) and reporting teams with data fixes and query tuning.
Performance, Security and monitoring
• Tune queries, indexes, statistics, execution plans and wait events; set up alerting on CPU, I/O, blocking and space.
• Produce weekly health and capacity reports.
• Enforce least-privilege access, auditing, encryption at rest and in transit, and password/key rotation.
Operations
• Participate in the 24x7 on-call rotation and lead database incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Follow change-management procedures for all production changes.
Required qualifications
Education and experience
• BSc in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years as a DBA in production environments, with both SQL Server and Oracle.
• Experience in banking, fintech or another regulated, high-transaction environment.
• Strong SQL writing and optimization ability in both T-SQL and PL/SQL.
• Solid understanding of storage, networking and OS concepts as they affect database performance.
• Proven experience running real DR failover drills, not only configuring standbys.
Preferred qualifications
• Certifications: Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional and Microsoft Certified
• Monitoring tools: Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio reports, Zabbix, Grafana or similar.
