Sony Group is a Japanese conglomerate founded in Tokyo in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita, which grew from transistor radios and the Walkman into one of the broadest entertainment and technology businesses in the world. Its largest profit engine is PlayStation, run by Sony Interactive Entertainment, followed by a music division holding some of the biggest recorded and publishing catalogues, Sony Pictures, and the Alpha camera and Bravia display lines. Less visible but strategically central is its semiconductor arm, which supplies the majority of the world's smartphone image sensors, alongside a substantial financial services business in Japan.

Lead Sony Europe’s Data Governance & Data Quality capability and help make critical business data easier to trust, understand and use. In this role, you will establish practical governance frameworks, standards, processes and ways of working that create clear data ownership, consistent definitions, appropriate controls and measurable data quality.

Working across business teams, BI, data platforms, data engineering, architecture and IS, you will turn governance principles into everyday practice while enabling effective stewardship, metadata management, data quality and data product governance.

You will:

  • Lead and continuously improve the data governance framework, operating model, standards, processes and decision rights.
  • Build clear accountability across Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians and Data Consumers, resolving ownership gaps and conflicting definitions.
  • Be responsible for the data quality framework, including critical data elements, business-owned rules, thresholds, controls, scorecards and issue management.
  • Drive remediation governance and root-cause resolution with accountable business and technology teams, monitoring issues through to closure.
  • Increase adoption of business glossaries, common definitions, metadata standards, cataloguing, lineage and trusted data products.
  • Be responsible for the functional roadmap and business adoption of governance and data quality tools, including Collibra or comparable platforms.
  • Partner with senior business and technology stakeholders to embed governance into data, analytics, BI and digital initiatives.
  • Lead, coach and develop a collaborative Data Governance & Data Quality team across multiple countries.

You will bring:

  • Experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata management or a related area within a large or complex organisation.
  • Practical knowledge of data ownership, stewardship, business glossaries, metadata, lineage and data quality management.
  • Experience introducing or improving governance frameworks, data quality controls, reporting or issue-management processes.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships and explain governance topics clearly to both business and technology stakeholders.
  • People leadership experience, with an inclusive and collaborative approach to developing, motivating and supporting colleagues.
  • Experience with Collibra or a comparable governance, metadata or data quality platform.
  • Familiarity with SAP or Microsoft Dynamics, data lakes or lakehouses, Databricks, Power BI or similar environments would be beneficial.
  • A degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
