Director - Engineering

The Role:

As Director of Engineering, you will provide technical and organizational leadership across multiple engineering teams. You will work closely with Product, Design, Data, and Business leaders to define technology strategy, deliver high-impact products, and build a strong engineering culture. The role requires strong depth across backend, frontend, APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and modern web technologies, along with demonstrated experience managing and developing engineering leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, mentor, and grow multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers.

- Define and execute engineering strategy and the technology roadmap with Product and senior leadership.

- Own architecture, scalability, reliability, security, and performance across critical product areas.

- Drive modern full-stack application development across frontend, backend, APIs, and data layers.

- Establish strong practices for design, development, testing, code quality, CI/CD, observability, and production reliability.

- Lead architectural decisions and technical reviews for complex, large-scale systems.

- Partner with Product and Design to translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions.

- Drive planning, prioritization, execution, and delivery across multiple teams.

- Build a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

- Develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders and build a strong leadership pipeline.

- Balance feature development with technical debt, scalability, reliability, and platform investments.

- Champion automation, developer productivity, and effective use of modern engineering and AI-assisted development tools.

- Participate in hiring, organizational design, performance management, and talent development.

- Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption where they provide meaningful business or engineering value.

Technical Scope:

- Backend: Java, Python, Go, Node.js, or similar modern backend technologies.

- Frontend: JavaScript/TypeScript, React, or equivalent frameworks.

- Architecture: Distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, caching, search, and high-scale data systems.

- Cloud: AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent cloud platforms.

- Databases: Relational and NoSQL databases, data stores, caching, and messaging systems.

- DevOps & Reliability: CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, observability, monitoring, and SRE practices.

- Engineering Quality: Automated testing, code reviews, secure development practices, and performance engineering.

- Experience building and operating high-scale, highly available SaaS products is highly desirable.

What We're Looking For:

- 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant engineering leadership experience.

- Experience leading multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers in a product or SaaS environment.

- Strong full-stack engineering background with the ability to engage deeply in frontend and backend architecture.

- Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems and customer-facing products.

- Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering fundamentals, scalability, performance, and reliability.

- Ability to translate business objectives into technical strategy and execution plans.

- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

- Experience hiring, mentoring, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering talent.

- Strong product mindset focused on customer impact and business outcomes.

- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while maintaining engineering quality and long-term technical vision.

- We require candidates from premium colleges and having experience with B2C product.
