Job Summary

This job posting is for an existing, active vacancy and we are looking to hire WordPress Engineer immediately.

Required Qualifications

• 5-8 years of relevant professional experience is required, including production ownership of enterprise content management or web platforms.
• Strong hands-on experience administering and upgrading WordPress core, plugins, themes, and templates at scale.
• Proficiency in PHP, WordPress APIs and hooks, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST APIs, and modern development practices.
• Demonstrated experience creating secure, maintainable custom plugins and themes, with automated testing and code review.
• Practical experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) repositories and pipelines for source control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
• Experience authoring or maintaining GitHub Actions workflows for build, validation, and deployment automation.
• Hands-on administration of MySQL or MariaDB, including installation, configuration, upgrades, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of Linux, Apache, or Nginx, command-line tools, web security, TLS, caching, logging, and monitoring.
• Experience managing production changes through branching strategies, pull requests, approvals, environment promotion, rollback, and audit controls.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

WORDPRESS PLATFORM OPERATIONS:

• Own routine and emergency upgrades of WordPress core, themes, and plugins across the internal site portfolio.
• Plan, test, schedule, and execute releases with rollback procedures and minimal business disruption.
• Monitor platform health, availability, performance, capacity, and security; investigate incidents and recurring defects.
• Maintain consistent configurations and engineering standards across a large, distributed site estate.

PLUGIN & THEME ENGINEERING:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain custom WordPress plugins, themes, templates, and reusable components.
• Review third-party plugins and themes for supportability, security, accessibility, and performance.
• Troubleshoot PHP, WordPress, API, and front-end issues across development, test, and production environments.
• Document reusable patterns, coding standards, dependencies, and upgrade guidance.

CI/CD & Source Control

• Build and maintain automated build, test, security scanning, packaging, deployment, and rollback pipelines.
• Use Azure DevOps (ADO) for source control and CI/CD, including repositories, branching, pull requests, approvals, pipelines, and release controls.
• Create and maintain GitHub Actions workflows where required, applying secure secrets handling and reusable workflow patterns.

Database & Environment Management

• Install, configure, upgrade, back up, restore, monitor, and troubleshoot WordPress databases, primarily MySQL or MariaDB.
• Support schema and data migrations, query optimization, integrity checks, retention, and recovery testing.
• Partner with infrastructure and security teams on Linux, web server, caching, certificate, access, and environment requirements.

The pay range for this role is $90,000 - $100,000 per annum including any bonuses or variable pay.
