SenseTime is a Chinese artificial intelligence company founded in 2014 out of computer vision research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and one of the country's largest AI software vendors. It built its business on face and image recognition sold to city governments, banks, retailers and phone makers, running on SenseCore, its own large-scale training and inference infrastructure. Since 2023 the company has pivoted toward generative AI with the SenseNova model family and the SenseChat assistant, while also selling autonomous driving software, and it has operated under United States sanctions since 2021.
