Amazon is an American technology and retail conglomerate founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates the world's largest online marketplace together with a global logistics network, physical grocery stores and a third-party seller platform that accounts for most units sold. Amazon Web Services, launched in 2006, is the leading public cloud provider and generates the majority of the group's operating profit, while advertising, Prime Video, Alexa devices and Kuiper satellite broadband round out the business.

Join our Field Engineering team and gain hands-on experience supporting the technical infrastructure that powers Amazon Web Services. You'll work alongside experienced engineers to troubleshoot complex systems, contribute to data center optimization projects, and develop expertise in hyper-scale facility operations while learning how cutting-edge technologies keep our data centers running efficiently.

As an intern you will work with leading-edge technologies and equipment and learn how hyper-scale data centers are able to operate efficiently and with minimal downtime. You will work with tenured Field Engineers (FEs), allowing you to learn and experience the day-to-day activities in a fast-paced and high-tech industry. You will support with deep dives into operational events and may also be given your own projects to run, exposing you to internal systems and operational processes.

Key job responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Interface with internal data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Work on concurrent projects.
  • Support new construction projects during design, build, commissioning, and handover. A day in the life As a Field Engineering Intern, you'll immerse yourself in the dynamic environment of Amazon data centers, where you'll collaborate with seasoned Field Engineers on real operational challenges. Your day might include investigating equipment failures and documenting root cause analyses, reviewing complex operating procedures with operations teams, or supporting the design and implementation of data center upgrades that enhance capacity and efficiency. You'll participate in concurrent projects ranging from new construction commissioning to facility optimization initiatives, gaining exposure to internal systems and operational processes. Working across multiple technical domains-from electrical and mechanical systems to environmental considerations-you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of how we maintain reliability and performance at scale. About the team We are the Field Engineering team, serving as the technical backbone for AWS Data Center Operations across multiple regions.
