Software Engineer

This position will be hybrid at our Bangalore/Mumbai, India location.

Work Timing:

9:00 AM IST - 6:00 PM IST

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems (MIS), Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.

Previous Experience:

• Minimum 5+ years of professional software development experience, with hands-on experience in PHP-based application development.
• Experience designing, developing, supporting, and enhancing enterprise web applications and services.
• Experience working with geographically distributed applications and systems.
• Experience collaborating effectively with offshore/onshore development and support teams.
• Experience across the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, production support, and application maintenance.

Knowledge and Skills:

PHP & Application Development:

• Strong hands-on experience in PHP and object-oriented application development.
• Hands-on experience with at least one PHP framework such as Laravel, Symfony, or CodeIgniter.
• Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), design patterns, reusable components, and clean coding principles.
• Experience developing scalable, maintainable, secure, and high-performing web applications.
• Experience with PHP dependency and package management using Composer.
• Good understanding of application logging, exception handling, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, JSON, and XML.
• Experience with frontend technologies or frameworks such as Angular / React is desirable.

AI-Assisted Software Development:

• Working knowledge and practical experience using AI-assisted development and coding tools.
• Ability to use AI tools to assist with writing, reviewing, refactoring, optimizing, and documenting code.
• Ability to leverage AI tools for debugging, analysing application errors and logs, identifying root causes, and resolving technical issues.
• Ability to leverage AI to understand and troubleshoot legacy or complex application code.
• Ability to provide appropriate prompts and technical context to obtain useful code suggestions and troubleshooting recommendations from AI tools.
• Ability to review, test, and validate AI-generated code and recommendations before implementation.
• Ensure AI-generated or AI-assisted code meets established standards for security, performance, maintainability, reliability, and code quality.
• Good understanding of the responsible and secure use of AI tools, particularly when working with proprietary source code, credentials, customer information, sensitive data, and production information.
• Experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent tools is desirable.

APIs & Integration:

• Hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining RESTful APIs and web services.
• Experience with REST API development and JSON-based integrations.
• Experience implementing API authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Good understanding of application and API security principles.
• Experience implementing appropriate security controls for transmitting and handling sensitive API payloads.
• Experience integrating applications with third-party and enterprise systems.
• Knowledge or experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) implementation and related authentication technologies.
• Payment gateway or payment-system integration experience is desirable.

Database:

• Hands-on experience with relational database technologies, including MySQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with AWS RDS or similar managed relational database services is desirable.
• Good SQL development skills, including experience with stored procedures.
• Good understanding of database normalization and denormalization.
• Experience with query optimization, indexing, and database performance tuning.
• Ability to design and maintain database structures based on application and business requirements.

Web & Infrastructure:

• Good understanding of Linux-based development and application hosting environments.
• Understanding of web/application servers and associated infrastructure concepts, including Apache, Nginx, load balancers, proxies, and reverse proxies.
• Understanding of Layer 4 and Layer 7 load balancing concepts.
• Understanding of session and state management for distributed applications.
• Familiarity with application performance, scalability, availability, and troubleshooting concepts.

DevOps & Source Control:

• Proficient with Git and source-code/version-control practices.
• Experience working with Azure DevOps for source control, work management, build, and/or deployment activities.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build and deployment processes.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps Pipelines and/or Jenkins.
• Familiarity with deployment processes across development, testing, staging, and production environments.

Architecture & Engineering Practices:

• Good understanding of client/server and n-tier application architecture.
• Knowledge of software design patterns and application development principles.
• Understanding of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) and UML.
• Ability to develop well-structured, maintainable, testable, and reusable code.
• Experience participating in code reviews and following established coding standards and development best practices.
• Good understanding of application security, performance optimization, scalability, and secure development practices.
• Ability to evaluate technical approaches and recommend appropriate solutions based on requirements.

Troubleshooting & Production Support:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform root-cause analysis and implement appropriate technical solutions.
• Ability to analyse and troubleshoot application, API, database, integration, and production-related issues.
• Ability to understand existing and legacy applications and recommend appropriate technical improvements.
• Experience supporting business-critical production applications.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and support production-critical situations when required.

Security & Secure Development Practices:

• Good understanding of application, API, and infrastructure security principles.
• Experience implementing secure development practices and appropriate security controls.
• Ability to ensure AI-assisted development activities comply with security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
• Awareness of secure handling of sensitive customer, business, and production data.

Additional Technical Skills:

• Knowledge or experience with Node.js and/or Python is desirable.
• Knowledge of or hands-on experience with Vtiger CRM, including customization, module development, workflow configuration, integrations, and administration, would be an added advantage.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, particularly AWS, is desirable.
• Ability to understand existing and legacy applications and recommend appropriate technical improvements.
