Role Purpose

The Technical Lead - Formulations & Packaging Technologies provides hands-on IT technical leadership to support the digitization of formulation, ingredient, substance, and packaging data across Haleon R&D, with core experience in Microsoft Azure, Databricks, system engineering, system interfaces, and modern software delivery practices.

Working closely with the Product Manager, Product Experts, and Architects, this role is responsible for translating requirements into fit-for-purpose technical designs, guiding configuration and build activities, and ensuring solutions align with SAP S/4HANA IPD, R&D ways of working, and enterprise technology standards for cloud platforms, integrations, and code-managed delivery.

The role plays a key part in ensuring data quality, integration integrity, and delivery consistency for formulation and packaging capabilities.

Key Accountabilities

Technical Delivery & Solution Support

• Provide hands-on technical (IT) leadership & execution for formulation and packaging systems, including cloud-based and data-platform capabilities.

• Translate business and scientific requirements into detailed technical designs, system engineering artefacts, configurations, interfaces, and data structures.

• Support solution build and configuration activities delivered by internal teams and vendors using code management and DevOps practices.

• Ensure technical solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned to standards.

• Apply practical experience with Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Visual Studio Code, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Python, and Angular to support technical delivery and solution quality.

Formulation & Packaging Data Digitization

• Support digitization and harmonization of:

  • Formulation compositions and structures

  • Ingredient and substance data

  • Packaging specifications and attributes

• Ensure structured, high-quality data enabling traceability from substance → formulation → packaging → SKU.

• Support data migration, validation, and quality assurance activities.

SAP S/4HANA IPD Enablement

• Provide hands-on technical support for SAP S/4HANA IPD related to formulation and packaging.

• Contribute to design and configuration aligned to IPD data models and processes.

• Support integration between IPD, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Informatica and other R&D systems, ensuring system interfaces are robust, secure, and maintainable.

• Work under architectural guidance to ensure alignment with the broader S/4HANA programme.

Configuration, Integration & Release Support

• Review and support configuration, build, code management, and release activities across formulation and packaging systems.

• Support integration testing and defect resolution across connected platforms.

• Use GitHub, GitHub Actions, and Visual Studio Code to support version control, code review, automation, release traceability, and controlled deployment practices.

• Assist with release planning, deployment readiness, and post-release validation.

• Work closely with Testing and DevOps teams to ensure quality and stability.

• Support technical delivery involving Python services or scripts, Angular-based user interfaces, APIs, and system-to-system interfaces where required.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

• Execute technical activities in line with GxP, validation, and security requirements.

• Support preparation of technical documentation, design artefacts, and validation evidence.

• Identify technical risks and escalate appropriately.

Collaboration & Ways of Working

• Work closely with:

  • Product Managers (priorities and roadmap)

  • Product Experts (scientific and packaging requirements)

  • Architects (design standards and guardrails)

  • Vendors and delivery partners

• Act as a reliable technical point of contact for formulation and packaging technologies.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.

• 8 - 12 years of core experience with Microsoft Azure and Databricks, including cloud-based solution delivery, data engineering concepts, platform integration, and operational support.

• Strong system engineering experience, including technical design, solution decomposition, interface definition, non-functional requirements, and delivery documentation.

• Hands-on experience with system interfaces and integrations, including APIs, data flows, error handling, testing, and issue resolution across connected platforms.

• Familiarity with Visual Studio Code, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Python, and Angular to support code-managed delivery, automation, scripting, and application development activities.

• Practical experience working with SAP S/4HANA IPD (configuration, integration, or delivery support).

• Experience working in regulated (GxP) environments.

• Experience working with system integrators or vendors.

• Focused on execution, solution quality, and data integrity

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Clear communication skills and ability to work with global teams.

Desirable

• Experience in Life Sciences or Consumer Health R&D.

• Exposure to ingredient and substance master data concepts.

• Experience supporting large transformation programmes (e.g. formulation or PLM initiatives).

• Additional exposure to cloud-native architecture, CI/CD pipelines, API management, observability, or enterprise integration patterns.

• Experience working with system integrators or vendors.

• Senior hands-on technical contributor

• Operates under defined architecture and product direction.
