We are looking for an Engineering Operations Manager to help grow and mature our engineering presence in Bangalore by strengthening the operating rhythm, communication, reporting, and delivery practices that enable engineering teams to do their best work. This is a highly collaborative operations leadership role for someone with strong engineering credibility, excellent cross-site communication skills, and a practical understanding of how modern software teams plan, deliver, measure, and continuously improve. The successful candidate will serve as a key connection point between engineering leadership in the United States and the Bangalore office. They will help reinforce department culture, implement standard engineering practices, support the adoption of the agentic SDLC, track key engineering metrics, and manage local operational processes such as time tracking and capitalisation coordination.
We are looking for someone who can bring operational discipline, engineering context, and strong judgement to conversations with engineers, agile leaders, product leaders, finance partners, and senior engineering stakeholders. You should be comfortable asking good questions about how teams plan and deliver work, where process friction exists, what metrics are telling us, and how to improve outcomes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy. You do not need to be the strongest technologist in the room, but you should be credible enough to earn the trust of engineering teams and pragmatic enough to help them move faster while maintaining quality.
Responsibilities:
- Engineering operating cadence and cross-site communication routines.
- Adoption and reinforcement of standard engineering practices, including the agentic SDLC.
- Engineering metrics, dashboards, and reporting for delivery, quality, productivity, and operational health.
- Continuous improvement practices across teams and squads.
- Time tracking and capitalisation processes for the Bangalore office.
- Coordination between Bangalore-based teams and US-based engineering, product, agile, finance, and people stakeholders.
- You will be accountable for helping teams operate with clarity, consistency, transparency, and strong alignment to engineering leadership priorities.
- Serve as a key point of contact between US headquarters and the Bangalore office, communicating and reinforcing engineering department culture, process, priorities, and decisions.
- Partner closely with the Agile Director, engineering leaders, product leaders, and Bangalore-based teams to support predictable delivery and consistent execution.
- Help implement standard engineering practices across teams, including the adoption, implementation, and continuous improvement of the agentic SDLC.
- Use AI tools consistently and responsibly to improve personal productivity, operational efficiency, communication, analysis, and execution.
- Track, analyse, and report on key engineering metrics, including delivery predictability, throughput, quality, operational health, team process adherence, and continuous improvement progress.
- Create clear dashboards, summaries, and leadership updates that make risks, trends, dependencies, and improvement opportunities visible.
- Identify areas of improvement across engineering processes and support teams in practical, measurable continuous improvement efforts.
- Support team operating rhythms such as planning, dependency tracking, delivery reviews, retrospectives, incident follow-up, and improvement action tracking.
- Manage time tracking and capitalisation processes for the Bangalore office, partnering with finance and engineering leaders to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness.
- Help remove operational bottlenecks by clarifying process ownership, improving handoffs, documenting decisions, and escalating blockers appropriately.
- Promote an engineering culture where quality, safety, privacy, reliability, maintainability, and responsible use of AI-assisted development practices are built into how teams work.
- Collaborate effectively with distributed stakeholders, including flexible overlap with US time zones when needed.
- Help mature the Indian engineering presence by setting high standards for ownership, transparency, collaboration, and execution.
What success looks like in the first 6-12 months:
- Bangalore-based engineering teams have a clearer and more consistent operating rhythm aligned with US-based engineering leadership.
- The agentic SDLC is understood, adopted, and reinforced through practical team-level routines and measurable practices.
- Engineering metrics are available, trusted, and used to support better decisions, earlier risk identification, and continuous improvement.
- Time tracking and capitalisation processes are accurate, timely, well documented, and easier for teams to follow.
- Teams are more predictable in delivery and better aligned with business objectives.
- Operational bottlenecks and recurring process issues are surfaced, tracked, and improved through clear ownership and follow-through.
- Collaboration between Bangalore-based teams and US-based stakeholders is smooth, clear, and productive.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional experience in engineering operations, agile delivery, technical program management, software engineering leadership, or a closely related role.
- Experience working directly with software engineering teams and a strong understanding of modern software delivery practices.
- Demonstrated ability to implement, reinforce, and improve engineering or agile operating practices across multiple teams.
- Experience building, tracking, and communicating engineering metrics, dashboards, or operational reporting for leadership audiences.
- Strong experience with continuous improvement practices, including identifying bottlenecks, facilitating improvement actions, and measuring outcomes.
- Experience coordinating across distributed teams and stakeholders, preferably across India and the United States.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate leadership decisions into clear, actionable guidance for teams.
- High ownership mindset, strong follow-through, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguity.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, especially for recurring operational processes and compliance-sensitive reporting.
- Experience using common engineering and agile collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence and business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Atlassian Analytics, and spreadsheets.
Nice-to-have experience:
- Experience helping grow or mature an engineering team or engineering site in India.
- Experience with time tracking and software capitalisation support or engineering cost allocation processes.
- Experience introducing AI-assisted development tools, agentic coding workflows, developer automation, or productivity-enhancing engineering practices.
- Experience with platform, SaaS, EdTech, or other product engineering organisations operating at scale.
- Experience supporting teams that own production services and use incident, observability, reliability, or operational review practices.
- Familiarity with microservices-based systems, cloud platforms such as AWS, or modern web application delivery practices.
- Experience facilitating cross-functional planning, dependency management, retrospectives, operational reviews, or leadership business reviews.
- Experience with change management, internal communications, or training related to engineering process adoption.
Expectations:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative engineering environment.
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and SDLC processes.
- Comfortable participating in on-call rotations and incident response activities.
Leadership traits we value:
- High ownership and accountability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong collaboration across engineering, product, agile, finance, people, and business stakeholders.
- Pragmatism and bias for delivery.
- Ability to raise consistency and transparency without adding unnecessary process burden.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity.
- Coaching and facilitation mindset.
- Strong judgment around quality, safety, privacy, production risk, and compliance-sensitive reporting Interest in modern engineering practices, including responsible use of AI and agentic development workflows.
- Working with global teams
- Candidates should be comfortable with flexible working patterns to support collaboration across time zones, including occasional evening overlap up to 9:30pm India time as business needs require.
