Leidos is an American technology and engineering services company created in 2013 when Science Applications International Corporation split in two, with Leidos taking the technical services and solutions business. It is one of the largest suppliers to the United States government, working across defence programmes, intelligence systems, civil agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration, and healthcare services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the company also builds security detection products for airports and borders, and has concentrated recent investment on trusted artificial intelligence and autonomy for mission environments.

About the Team

You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.

Defence Digital Modernisation (DDM) enables Defence through the delivery of secure, mission-critical technology services and digital transformation initiatives. Using cloud, DevSecOps, automation, cybersecurity and AI, DDM helps modernise complex environments and strengthen Defence's operational capability.

The Opportunity

As an Enterprise Cloud and Platform Architect, you will shape the architecture, governance and evolution of enterprise hosting, cloud, virtualisation, identity and platform services supporting Defence and national security customers. Working across complex hybrid environments, you will connect technology strategy with mission outcomes and help guide significant platform modernisation initiatives.

  • Develop enterprise cloud and infrastructure architectures, technology roadmaps, reference architectures and design patterns aligned with customer objectives.
  • Design and govern hybrid cloud environments spanning AWS, Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms, including landing zones, migration strategies, integration patterns and operating models.
  • Guide the modernisation of enterprise hosting and virtualisation services, including container platforms, software-defined infrastructure and the transition from legacy technologies.
  • Partner with customer stakeholders, engineering and service delivery teams, security specialists, technology vendors and senior leaders to facilitate architecture workshops, technical reviews, governance and assurance activities.

About You

You bring enterprise-level cloud and platform architecture experience and can translate complex technical considerations into clear, practical direction for technical and executive audiences. You are comfortable working across architecture, engineering, security and service delivery functions to balance modernisation opportunities with operational and accreditation requirements.

Essential:

  • At least seven years’ experience in cloud and platform engineering and/or architecture.
  • Experience designing enterprise hybrid cloud environments using AWS and/or Microsoft Azure, including cloud migration, transformation, governance, security and operating models.
  • Experience across enterprise data centre and hosting environments, including VMware vSphere, virtualisation, workload migration and storage, compute and networking architectures.
  • Capability in developing technology roadmaps, architecture artefacts, design patterns and reference architectures.
  • Experience contributing to architecture governance, design reviews and technical assurance activities.
  • Ability to engage senior customer stakeholders, technology partners and multidisciplinary delivery teams, and to communicate technical concepts clearly to executive audiences.
  • A bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Nutanix, container platforms or software-defined infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps, automation and infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud or Google Distributed Cloud.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, identity federation or privileged access management.
  • Experience delivering security architecture within highly regulated environments.
  • Relevant cloud, enterprise architecture, VMware or Nutanix certifications, particularly AWS or Microsoft Azure architecture qualifications.
  • Experience working with Agile delivery and DevOps practices.

This role requires the successful applicant to be an Australian citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.
