mobile.de is the largest vehicle marketplace in Germany, founded in 1996 and based near Berlin. Millions of cars are listed by dealers and private sellers and the site provides financing, leasing and valuation tools. The company is part of the Adevinta group after being owned by eBay.
mobile.de is Germany’s largest vehicle marketplace, with more than 1.6 million listed cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and e-bikes (annual average 2025). Both private customers and registered vehicle dealers use the platform and benefit from more than 140 million visits per month*. As a “one-stop shop,” mobile.de’s offering includes not only buying and selling, but also financing and leasing solutions. Founded in 1996, the company is a subsidiary of Adevinta, a global leader in online classified portals.

Based in Berlin-Charlottenburg, we offer a dynamic environment where growth, learning, and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do. If you are driven by an eagerness to disrupt, have a passion for collaboration, and are excited about shaping the future of mobility, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to support the transformation of a live, customer-facing marketplace platform. You will lead architecture and delivery across cloud migration, application separation and operational transition, working with mobile.de teams, distributed engineers and external partners.

Before completion of the relevant transaction and regulatory conditions, work will be limited to approved planning, technical preparation and due diligence. Implementation, system activation and operational transition will begin only once those conditions are met.

Who you are

  • Senior software engineer, platform engineer or Technical Lead with 5+ years’ experience and a track record of leading complex migrations or platform transformations.
  • Strong experience with AWS, including S3, KMS, DynamoDB, networking, identity and secure cloud environments.
  • Strong experience with Github CI/CD ecosystem, Terraform, Docker and production operations; experience with Heroku-to-AWS migration is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and large-scale data or object-storage migration.
  • Experience with Ruby/Rails, JRuby and/or Clojure in a mixed application landscape.
  • Practical experience with Kafka, Kafka Connect, Redis, Memcached and Elasticsearch or comparable technologies.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, CircleCI, Fastly, DNS, Auth0, Okta, Algolia, Imgix and external APIs.
  • Experience with Honeycomb, Bugsnag, PagerDuty or comparable observability and incident-management tools.
  • Comfortable working with data-platform dependencies involving GCP, BigQuery, Airflow/Cloud Composer, dbt and Fivetran.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills across organisational and time-zone boundaries.
  • Fluent English; German at B2 level or above is a strong advantage. Willingness to travel occasionally.

What you'll do

  • Own the technical roadmap, target architecture, dependencies, risks and readiness criteria for a complex platform transformation.
  • Co-Lead post-completion migration of applications, databases, object storage and platform services into a mobile.de-owned cloud environment together with a Lead Site Reliability Engineer.
  • Coordinate codebase separation, dependency management, release sequencing and migration of event-driven services and messaging flows.
  • Define cutover, rollback, testing, security and operational-readiness plans for live customer-facing systems.
  • Establish effective ways of working across engineering, product, operations, security and external delivery teams.
  • Ensure monitoring, alerting, incident response, runbooks and ownership are in place before services move into the target operating model.
  • Make pragmatic architecture decisions and communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
