Firmware and Hardware Development Engineer

Our client, a well-established technology and product development organisation, is seeking an experienced Firmware & Hardware Development Engineer to play a key role in the design, development, testing, and enhancement of embedded systems. You'll work within a collaborative engineering environment, contributing to new product development while maintaining and improving existing solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, implement, and test embedded firmware for new and existing products.
• Analyse and design hardware and firmware solutions in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Create formal test plans and execute product testing to ensure quality and reliability.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve firmware and hardware-related issues.
• Maintain and enhance existing firmware while ensuring system stability.
• Support the migration of products to newer technologies and platforms.
• Document systems, enhancements, and development processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives where required.
• Ensure adherence to best-practice development standards and processes.

Job Experience and Skills Required

• BSc or BEng Degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant embedded systems development experience.
• Proven experience developing embedded software using RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS, uClinux, or similar.
• Strong firmware development experience using C.
• Experience working with microcontrollers such as STM32, Nordic nRF, Atmel AVR, TI MSP430, or Microchip PIC.
• Experience with embedded communications and networking technologies.

• Communication protocols including TCP/IP, MQTT, SPI, UART, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, and RS485.
• Experience with GSM/LTE communication technologies.
• Embedded product testing and validation.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

• RF development experience (LoRa, Sigfox, 443MHz, 868MHz).
• SQL Server experience.
• Application development using Java, C++, and/or C#.
