Your day at NTT DATA

The Technology Sales Specialist is a customer-facing technical sales professional responsible for helping clients understand, evaluate and adopt technology solutions across NTT DATA’s broader infrastructure portfolio.

Working closely with Client Managers, Solution Architects, technical specialists, delivery teams and technology partners, this role will engage directly with customers to understand their business and technology priorities, identify opportunities, shape solutions and support opportunities through the technical sales lifecycle.

The role covers an integrated technology portfolio spanning networking, cybersecurity, data centre infrastructure, software-defined data centre, hybrid cloud and AI infrastructure. The successful candidate does not need to be a specialist in every technology domain but should bring strong technical foundations, broad infrastructure understanding and the ability to connect different technologies into meaningful customer solutions.

This is a highly customer-facing role requiring a blend of technical credibility, consultative selling, commercial awareness and strong relationship-building capability.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with customers alongside Client Managers to understand business objectives, technology environments and technical requirements.
  • Identify, qualify and develop technology opportunities across networking, cybersecurity, data centre infrastructure, SDDC, hybrid cloud and AI infrastructure.
  • Position technology solutions based on customer requirements, business outcomes and existing technology environments.
  • Conduct customer discovery sessions, presentations, workshops, demonstrations and technical discussions.
  • Translate customer requirements into appropriate technology solutions, working with Solution Architects and subject-matter experts where deeper technical expertise is required.
  • Support solution development including high-level designs, architecture inputs, Bills of Material, technical specifications and solution configurations.
  • Develop technical proposals and contribute to RFP, RFI and RFQ responses.
  • Support demonstrations, proof-of-concepts and other technical validation activities where required.
  • Work with internal technical specialists and architects to validate solution design, sizing, scalability, performance, resilience and deliverability.
  • Support account planning, pipeline development, opportunity progression and deal closure.
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities across the wider technology portfolio.
  • Contribute to solution costing, pricing, licensing and commercial proposal development.
  • Develop value propositions and competitive positioning while supporting customer objections, negotiations and deal progression.
  • Engage technology vendors and partners for technical validation, solution configuration, pricing and commercial support.
  • Coordinate effectively across Client Managers, Solution Architects, technical specialists, commercial teams, delivery teams, vendors and distributors.
  • Support solution handover to implementation and delivery teams following successful opportunity closure.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant technology trends, market developments and competitor offerings.

To thrive in this role, you need to have:

  • Strong customer-facing technical sales, presales, solution consulting or solution-design capability within enterprise technology environments.
  • Broad understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies with depth in one or more relevant areas such as networking, network security, data centre infrastructure, SDDC or hybrid cloud.
  • Ability to understand customer business and technology requirements and translate them into practical solution opportunities.
  • Strong consultative selling capability with the ability to connect technical solutions to business value and customer outcomes.
  • Good understanding of technologies across areas including LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, routing and switching, network security, compute, storage, virtualisation, HCI, private cloud, hybrid cloud and software-defined infrastructure.
  • Exposure to AI infrastructure and related enterprise infrastructure requirements is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting technical proposals, solution designs, RFP/RFI/RFQ responses, demonstrations, workshops or proof-of-concepts.
  • Commercial awareness covering solution costing, pricing, licensing, margins, competitive positioning and negotiation support.
  • Ability to identify opportunities across multiple technology domains rather than operating within a single specialist portfolio.
  • Strong customer engagement, communication, presentation and workshop facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with account teams, Solution Architects, technical specialists, vendors and delivery organisations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and customer engagements concurrently.
  • Familiarity with relevant enterprise technology vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, F5, VMware, Nutanix, Dell Technologies, Microsoft and Red Hat.

Academic qualifications and certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications across networking, security, infrastructure, virtualisation, cloud or related technologies are advantageous.
