Onsemi is an American semiconductor company that was spun out of Motorola in 1999 and has since narrowed itself from a broad commodity chip supplier into a focused power and sensing business. Its silicon carbide and silicon power devices go into electric vehicle traction inverters, chargers and industrial drives, while its image sensors are used in automotive cameras and industrial vision, and it has deliberately exited lower-margin product lines to concentrate on these markets. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and listed on Nasdaq, it owns its own silicon carbide substrate manufacturing to secure supply.

The Strategic Capacity Planner (Staff) is responsible for aligning internal and external manufacturing capacity with customer demand through wafer start planning, capacity optimization, and long-range supply strategies. This role partners closely with Integrated Planning, Manufacturing, Operations, and Business Units to balance demand and supply, optimize site utilization, drive process improvements, and provide data-driven recommendations to senior leadership.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Drive supply response strategies for the quarterly BOQ process by evaluating unconstrained demand and identifying solutions to maximize revenue realization and close supply-demand gaps.
  • Develop capacity strategies for the semiannual strategic planning cycle, recommending solutions to optimize internal manufacturing capacity and external foundry utilization.
  • Analyze product and technology mix scenarios to support network and site optimization across both internal and external manufacturing locations.
  • Partner with Manufacturing teams to evaluate capital investment requirements that support demand growth, while identifying opportunities for tool cross-utilization to mitigate stranded asset risk and improve capital efficiency.
  • Lead and coordinate multisource qualification initiatives to strengthen supply continuity and reduce operational risk.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain Planning, Business Units, Finance, and Manufacturing teams to deliver best-in-class customer service and operational performance.
  • Analyze loading plans by comparing near-term wafer start commitments against business forecasts, identifying opportunities to improve capacity utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure demand mix changes are reviewed, supply-vetted, and effectively communicated to key stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
  • Identify, diagnose, and implement end-to-end supply chain improvement opportunities that enhance responsiveness, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives that drive planning excellence, operational efficiency, and business effectiveness.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless transitions from New Product Introduction (NPI) through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for assigned manufacturing sites, providing data-driven insights and presenting recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Develop and apply advanced modeling techniques to assess uncertainty within the five-year strategic plan, evaluate capacity investment scenarios, and optimize decisions based on cost, margin, and risk considerations.

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective collaborator with proven ability to work across global, cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong process improvement and project management skills.
  • Results-driven with the ability to perform under pressure and deliver against business objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, supply chain planning, capacity planning, or operations management.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and planning processes.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal guidance while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex issues and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear, business-focused manner.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
