Onsemi is an American semiconductor company that was spun out of Motorola in 1999 and has since narrowed itself from a broad commodity chip supplier into a focused power and sensing business. Its silicon carbide and silicon power devices go into electric vehicle traction inverters, chargers and industrial drives, while its image sensors are used in automotive cameras and industrial vision, and it has deliberately exited lower-margin product lines to concentrate on these markets. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and listed on Nasdaq, it owns its own silicon carbide substrate manufacturing to secure supply.

Job Summary:

Performance Objectives

  • Ensure that products and materials supplied to onsemi comply with applicable drawings, specifications, manufacturing requirements, quality standards, and reliability expectations.
  • Lead supplier development and quality improvement activities across new product introduction, new technology introduction, qualification, and mass production.
  • Build quality into supplier products and processes by emphasizing early risk identification, defect prevention, process robustness, and effective corrective and preventive action.

NPI/NTI and Supplier Development

  • Lead Supplier Quality Engineering activities for NPI and NTI programs to ensure supplier product, process, capacity, and quality readiness support onsemi time-to-market requirements.
  • Partner with suppliers, R&D, Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Global Commodity Management to define requirements and resolve design, material, manufacturability, and quality risks early.
  • Drive APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, DFM/DFQ, process validation, measurement-system readiness, and qualification evidence for assigned commodities and suppliers.

Supplier Performance and Quality Improvement

  • Serve as the Seremban site Supplier Quality lead for assigned critical direct materials and supplier-quality improvement initiatives supporting released products.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance, identify adverse trends and systemic risks, and lead improvement plans for poor-performing or high-risk suppliers.
  • Lead rapid containment, structured root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, effectiveness verification, and recurrence prevention for supplier-related quality issues.
  • Track, manage, and report assigned quality initiatives, supplier recovery plans, qualification status, risks, and executive-level escalations.

Critical Direct Materials and Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership for critical direct materials such as AMB/DCB, ceramic, substrate, leadframe, tape-and-reel materials, mold compound, wire, solder paste, sintering materials, and related power-semiconductor materials.
  • Evaluate supplier product and process capability, material characteristics, metrology, reliability performance, process robustness, and change-control effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain commodity-specific supplier assessment, qualification, control, and prevention requirements from product development through mass production.

Audits, Qualification, and Quality Systems

  • Plan and conduct supplier system, process, product, qualification, and special-process audits, particularly for new suppliers, new technologies, transfers, and significant supplier changes.
  • Lead supplier qualification audits and ensure timely closure and effectiveness verification of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate supplier-quality records, audit evidence, qualification documentation, and risk assessments in accordance with onsemi procedures and applicable automotive-quality requirements.

Global Collaboration and Standardization

  • Collaborate with SQE, SDE, IQA, manufacturing sites, and subject-matter experts across the global organization to solve technical issues and build quality synergy.
  • Drive standardization across worldwide factories for material verification, supplier assessment, qualification, audit methods, change control, and supplier performance management.
  • Partner with Global Commodity Managers to support cost and supply-chain objectives while maintaining appropriate quality, reliability, and risk controls.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • +8 years of relevant experience in semiconductor engineering, manufacturing, quality, supplier quality, supplier development, or a closely related function. Experience in power semiconductor products or materials is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated early-career experience in manufacturing process engineering, product engineering, product design, materials engineering, or equipment/process development, followed by substantial experience in Quality or Supplier Quality. Technical depth is essential; prior people-management experience is advantageous but not required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one critical material, supplier process, or technology area listed below.
  • AMB/DCB and ceramic processing, including ceramic microstructure, metallization, interface design, bonding, isolation, warpage, porosity, and reliability considerations.
  • Material joining and welding technologies.
  • Electroless and electrolytic plating processes, surface preparation, adhesion, thickness control, and defect mechanisms.
  • Soldering and sintering materials and processes, including material selection, process windows, joint integrity, and reliability.
  • Material characterization, metrology, laboratory testing, and reliability evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, SPC, DFM/DFQ, process certification, and process-robustness principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, schematics, test methods, and supplier technical documentation.
