Qualtrics is an experience management software company with dual headquarters in Provo, Utah and Seattle, whose platform collects and analyses customer, employee and product feedback and now adds AI-driven prediction and simulation. Founded in 2002, it was bought by SAP in 2019, listed on Nasdaq in 2021 and taken private by Silver Lake in 2023, and it reports more than 18,000 client organisations across government, healthcare, retail and other sectors. Its current openings are mostly enterprise and public-sector sales roles in Dallas, Provo and Seattle, alongside security, cryptography and platform engineering positions in the US, Poland, Japan and Australia.

At Qualtrics, we create software the world’s best brands use to deliver exceptional frontline experiences, build high-performing teams, and design products people love. But we are more than a platform-we are the creators and stewards of the Experience Management category serving over 18K clients globally. Building a category takes grit, determination, and a disdain for convention-but most of all it requires close-knit, high-functioning teams with an unwavering dedication to serving our customers.

When you join one of our teams, you’ll be part of a nimble group that’s empowered to set aggressive goals and move fast to achieve them. Strategic risks are encouraged and complex problems are solved together, by passing the microphone and iterating until the best solution comes to light. You won’t have to look to find growth opportunities-ready or not, they’ll find you. From retail to government to healthcare, we’re on a mission to bring humanity, connection, and empathy back to business. Join over 5,000 people across the globe who think that’s work worth doing.

Software Engineer I - XMD

Why We Have This Role

Qualtrics is seeking a Software Engineer I to join our XM Directory (XMD) Engineering team in our Seattle office. If you have a Bachelor’s degree, some software engineering experience or relevant internships, and want to work at a fast-growing tech company, Qualtrics could be the place you’ve been dreaming about.

You should love building simple solutions to solve hard customer problems and designing systems in an agile environment to withstand hyper growth.

How You’ll Find Success

  • Ability to create trust in customers and teams through thorough communication
  • Strong level of curiosity
  • Takes initiative and shows scrappiness in getting things done, and asks for help early when blocked
  • Proven ability to work well in teams - partnering with managers, cross-functional teams, and teammates
  • Takes an analytical mindset to approach problems and find solutions
  • Shows a desire to learn new skills and grow in the role

How You’ll Grow

  • Develop the ability to build scalable, fast, robust, and simple SaaS solutions.
  • Learn dev tools, operational tools, test tools, and containerization.
  • Learn to implement functionality from well-defined technical requirements and specifications.
  • Benefit from working with other engineers, tech-ops, and product managers.
  • Learn Agile methodologies by attending daily stand-up meetings, prioritizing tasks, and working with a sense of urgency to meet a scheduled plan to deliver value to our customers.

Things You’ll Do

  • Build backend services and web interfaces while learning our stack
  • Implement features and fix bugs with guidance from teammates, using AI-assisted tools to work faster and learn more
  • Work with senior engineers to break down requirements, and make sure what you build works
  • Write well-tested code, review your own and AI-assisted work carefully, and give and receive feedback in code reviews
  • Learn our codebase and tools, and ask questions early
  • Collaborate with teammates, product, and design in the team’s agile practices to deliver value to customers

What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Prior software engineering experience through internships, co-ops, academic coursework, or personal/open-source projects
  • Solid algorithms, data structures, and coding fundamentals
  • Exposure to web infrastructure and distributed systems
  • Familiarity or experience with modern developer tools, git, unit testing, and continuous deployment concepts
  • Foundational understanding of clean coding principles, with a strong eagerness to learn, take guidance, and contribute to team goals

What You Should Know About This Team

  • Every great experience starts with knowing who you’re talking to. XM Directory is where that knowledge lives.
  • When a customer, employee, or other stakeholder interacts with a company, XM Directory can capture it and remember it. Over time, those moments add up to living profiles that show what people like, what they need, and how every interaction makes them feel.
  • That experience context helps close the Experience Gap, the distance between what people expect and what companies deliver, and it lets AI, including our Experience Agents, act in the moments that matter. As Qualtrics builds its next-generation XM Data & AI Platform, you’ll work on the data layer it depends on.
  • Behind that is an engineering team solving big-data problems: storage systems built to hold stakeholder data at scale, and computation and serving layers that make it fast and useful the moment someone needs it. When AI is acting inside a live customer moment, that data has to be fresh, accurate, and fast to reach. We pick the right tool for each job from a broad toolkit of open source and industry-proven technologies, including Elasticsearch, AWS DynamoDB, AWS Kinesis, Redis, and more.
  • As a Software Engineer I on the XMD team, you’ll build on your skills in distributed systems, frontend development, and databases. You’ll learn from senior engineers, take on meaningful problems early, and help build the data foundation that AI-powered experiences depend on.

Our Team’s Favorite Perks and Benefits

  • We participate in personalized Career Action Planning. You will work with your manager to design a plan based on your life experiences, values, and career aspirations (inside and outside Qualtrics) that helps you achieve your career goals at Qualtrics
