We Are Hiring - Database Administration

Ultimate HR Solutions (UHRS) is hiring a Manager - Database Administration for a leading organization in the UAE.

Job Purpose

The Manager - Database Administration will be responsible for managing and supporting database infrastructure, ensuring security, performance, availability, backup, recovery, and business continuity.

The role will also support database and application projects, disaster recovery, system upgrades, capacity planning, and the day-to-day administration of a large database environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Administration

• Manage and support multiple database platforms, including Oracle, MS SQL Server, and DB2.
• Ensure database performance, availability, reliability, and security.
• Manage database capacity planning and performance monitoring.
• Support database installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Manage database user access and security.
• Apply security patches and ensure systems remain up to date.
• Support 24/7 database operations and critical business systems.

2. Database Infrastructure & Projects

• Support the implementation of database infrastructure projects.
• Participate in database architecture and infrastructure design.
• Plan for scalability, high availability, and future capacity requirements.
• Prepare project plans and coordinate technical activities with internal teams.
• Support database upgrades and migrations.
• Evaluate database technologies and solutions based on business requirements.

3. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Develop, implement, and test database disaster recovery solutions.
• Maintain production, disaster recovery, and testing environments.
• Participate in DR testing and recovery exercises.
• Ensure critical databases and applications can be restored within required timelines.

4. Application & Core Systems Support

• Support database administration for critical enterprise applications.
• Provide technical support for core banking and digital banking systems.
• Monitor system performance and resolve database-related issues.
• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, and other IT teams for smooth operations.

5. Security, Compliance & Licensing

• Maintain database policies, procedures, and technical standards.
• Ensure the security and integrity of databases.
• Manage database licenses and ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
• Reduce unnecessary dependency on external vendors by strengthening internal technical capabilities.
• Follow relevant IT service management, security, and governance standards.

6. Performance & Automation

• Identify opportunities to automate routine database administration activities.
• Improve database performance and operational efficiency.
• Proactively identify potential issues and recommend improvements.
• Plan maintenance activities and communicate potential downtime to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Master's degree in Computer Applications or a related field is an advantage.
• Relevant certifications in Oracle, MS SQL, DB2, ITIL, cybersecurity, or database administration are an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of experience in Information Technology.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar database administration role, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
• Strong hands-on experience with multiple RDBMS, data warehouse systems, and operating systems.
• Experience working in 24/7 operational environments.
• Experience managing large-scale databases and environments with high numbers of concurrent users.
• Experience working with multiple database technologies.
• Experience with critical enterprise or banking applications is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of Oracle, MS SQL Server, and DB2.
• Database administration and performance tuning.
• Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems.
• Application and web servers.
• Storage technologies such as SAN/NAS.
• Disaster recovery and high-availability solutions.
• Database security and access management.
• IT infrastructure and architecture.
