Mainframe Senior Support Engineer

We are currently looking for a Mainframe Senior Support Engineer to join our growing Mainframe Services team in Portugal.

The Mainframe Senior Support Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality operational services to enterprise customers, ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of critical Mainframe environments.

The successful candidate will work closely with customer-facing teams, technical specialists, and service delivery organizations to minimize service disruption, drive operational excellence, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Technology Leads, Service Delivery teams, and customer support organizations.
• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of customer environments, business priorities, and operational processes.
• Manage incidents in accordance with ITIL best practices and service level commitments.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex technical issues.
• Maintain and enhance technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Participate in change management activities, advisory boards, and implementation planning.
• Support problem management and continuous service improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to technical projects and platform enhancements.
• Deliver technical guidance, knowledge sharing sessions, and mentoring where appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, security requirements, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong expertise in at least one of the following Mainframe domains:
  • z/OS System Programming
  • CICS
  • DB2
  • Network
  • Storage
  • Automation
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on Mainframe experience in a senior support or engineering role.
• Solid understanding of Mainframe infrastructure and operations.
• Experience working in enterprise IT operations and infrastructure support environments.
• Good knowledge of ITSM and ITIL processes.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Customer-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
