Job Summary

We are seeking a people-oriented IT Project Manager to manage the day-to-day operations and Project Management Office (PMO) functions for our Database Services team. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between technical execution and operational governance. You will be responsible for institutionalizing PMO frameworks, optimizing operational workflows, managing resource allocation, and tracking a complex portfolio of database migrations, upgrades, and maintenance initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses a rare blend of large-scale team operational experience, PMO discipline, and a strong understanding of enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

PMO Governance & Portfolio Management

• Establish, standardize, and enforce PMO methodologies, frameworks, and templates tailored for database engineering and operations.
• Maintain a centralized dashboard tracking portfolio health, project timelines, milestones, budgets, and resource utilization across all database workstreams.
• Implement robust risk management frameworks to anticipate, mitigate, and log project blockers and security vulnerabilities.
• Deliver executive-ready status reports, KPIs, and operational metrics to senior leadership and key stakeholders.

Operational Leadership & Resource Management

• Oversee operational cadences, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups for a cross-functional database services team of 100 people.
• Manage complex capacity planning and resource allocation matrices, ensuring optimal staffing for both keep-the-lights-on (BAU) operations and net-new strategic projects.
• Streamline database release management, deployment cycles, and change control procedures to minimize downtime and business disruption.
• Define, monitor, and optimize team SLAs, OLAs, and incident response metrics in coordination with database engineering leads.

Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration

• Act as the liaison between the Database Services team, clients, business units, and external vendors.
• Gather business requirements and translate them into actionable technical project scopes and roadmaps.
• Facilitate cross-departmental alignment for large-scale infrastructure operations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification is highly preferred.
• ITIL foundations certifications are a strong asset.

Experience

• 5+ years of experience in IT project management, with at least 3+ years running operations or PMO functions for large-scale technical teams (50+ people).
• Proven track record managing infrastructure or database-specific program portfolios.
• Demonstrated experience building or heavily maturing a PMO from the ground up.

Technical & Professional Competencies

• Proficiency with enterprise PMO software (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, ServiceNow).
• Structural understanding of the ITIL frameworks, and database operational demands (patching, backups, high availability).
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills capable of uniting highly technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Analytical mindset with an ability to synthesize complex operational data into clear, actionable executive summaries.

The pay range for this role is $125,000- $135,000 per annum including any bonuses or variable pay.
